Why should training and development be important to your food manufacturing company?
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Ben Franklin
Employee training and development should be one of the vital few for your company. There are many benefits why, but let’s discuss the top five.
- Employee motivation and satisfaction: Investing in training shows employees they are valued and creates a supportive workplace. If employees feel valued, they will be hungry to grow and develop throughout their careers, which will also grow and develop their employer.
- Improved employee performance: If an employee truly understands their task at hand, it will ultimately build their confidence. That confidence will improve employee performance and productivity, benefiting the company.
- Decreased employee turnover: Turnover is known to be very high in some departments in the food processing industry and holding on to good people is hard. Employees are more likely to feel valued, engaged, and motivated if they are invested in and, therefore, less likely to change employers. This reduces all costs associated with turnover, including recruitment and on-boarding. Many employees view training and development as an additional company benefit.
- Employee improvement leads to business improvement: Allowing employees to continue learning encourages quality employee performance and attitude, resulting in better business. This can enhance your company reputation and profile by developing your employer brand and making your company a prime consideration for graduates and mid-career changes. Training opportunities also attract potential new recruits who seek to improve their skills and access new opportunities.
- Learning and change are connected: Organizations will be better prepared to respond to changes and adapt to an increasingly competitive (and ever-changing) market. Employees on top of changing industry standards help your company hold a position as a leader and strong competitor within the industry.
How does Commercial Food Sanitation (CFS) contribute to my employees’ development?
CFS has offered unique training courses—Sanitation Essentials Training (SET) and Hygienic Design Training (HDT)—since 2012. Instructors convey technical knowledge combined with an applicative hands-on approach, designed to create a passion for food safety. In order for participants to receive their certificate of completion for both the SET and HDT courses, they must share at least one of their course learnings with their team members at their facility. This ensures a win-win situation for employers.
A growing number of customers asked us to develop career path training for their high-potential employees. CFS recognized this value and implemented the three-step training curriculum toward obtaining a CFS Advanced Certification for Food Industry Leaders. The certification path begins with learning the fundamentals in SET and HDT before concluding with Advanced Certification. The Advanced course wraps up the program regarding leadership and processes that can help drive long-term success in your company.
